March Reading Month Initiative
Help us place 29 children’s bookshelves into homes by March 31st.
March 2, 2026, is Jesse’s birthday. March is also Reading Month.
As a child, Jesse loved to read. Books gave him imagination and a world bigger than him. He loved words. He once told me, “Momma, I like using big words.” He meant it. He enjoyed stretching language and thinking deeply.
One Christmas he asked me for a newspaper subscription. I remember thinking that it was the most precious gift request I had ever heard. He could have asked for anything, but what he wanted was something to read.
That was Jesse.
In his honor, through Jesse’s Dreams, we are launching the 29 Homes Reading Initiative.
Our goal is to place fully stocked children’s bookshelves, each containing 10 to 20 books, into 29 homes by March 31, 2026.
If you know a family whose children have limited access to books at home, we invite you to submit a recommendation.

Why 29 Homes?
The number represents his birthday. The shelves represent access.
Research consistently shows that children who grow up in homes with books perform better academically and build stronger vocabulary and confidence. Environment shapes belief. Belief shapes outcomes.
We are focusing on youth who do not have many books in their homes. For some children, this shelf may be the first visible reading space they have ever had.
OUR GOAL: $5,000
The average cost to fully fund one home bookshelf is approximately $200. If 175 people give $29 in honor of Jesse’s birthday, we reach our goal.

This Is About More Than Books
This initiative is about visibility. When children see books daily, reading becomes normal. When reading becomes normal, confidence grows. When confidence grows, possibilities expand.
Jesse’s life still speaks.
This March, we are choosing to make sure it echoes in 29 homes.
